From noon until 6:00 p.m. today, members of the Theodore Roosevelt Amateur Radio Club are hosting a special event station at the parking lot of Painted Canyon overlook near Medora. According to Ken Muggli, vice president of the club, the event was organized to celebrate the 61st anniversary of fourth unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
From an e-mail Ken sent:
We will be making contacts with other hams from all over the world. We will be putting ND on the map, so to speak. We hope to draw a little attention to amateur radio and demonstrate how we can operate without standard electricity as in the case of a real emergency. Fun, fun and more fun.
Muggli said the event has been advertised through the ham radio network and he expects to be receiving calls from around the world. If you happen to be in the Medora area today, it might be worth a visit…but one quick warning: Ken says ham radio is addictive.
