Jon Hegre’s ND Oil Jobs Site Connects People To North Dakota Life
Published by gwen April 19th, 2008 in Energy, North Dakota People, Outdoors.Jon Hegre, a school teacher and former sportscaster, moved from North Dakota more than ten years ago. Since then, he’s lived and worked in both California and Colorado, but he’s never stopped loving ND. This past January, his love of North Dakota initiated a new web site: www.ndoiljobs.com.
“I read the Yew York Time article about all the possible oil investing coming up in North Dakota,” Hegre said. “I was just shocked. I started doing some investigating on the internet and saw that there wasn’t really anything out there to serve people trying to move into the state.”
So Hegre started a web site to connect oil companies with people who might be looking for good jobs in the oil fields.
The site already has several sponsors, including Century 21 Action Realtors, MW Industries and Four Bears Casino. It works like the Red River Concierge, a web site designed to make it easy for people to move to the research corridor on the eastern side of North Dakota.
But Hegre’s site connects people looking to move into the energy corridor on the western side of the state with information about housing, the weather, government services, and–most importantly–the many new jobs opening in the oil fields.
According to Hegre, oil companies looking for workers can post jobs directly on his site. He already has one major employer (which could possibly drill about three hundred wells in the near future) posting jobs on his site. Another two major oil companies are finishing corporate work that will allow them to post jobs there, as well.
Hegre, who once hosted hunting and fishing television segments on Jon Hegre Outdoors, said his experiences as a sportscaster (separately in Fargo, Minot and Bismarck) gave him a chance to really get to know his home state. While he’s not an official North Dakota ambassador, he said he wants to share the opportunities and lifestyle that people can have living in ND.
Hegre recently joined the North Dakota Petroleum Council. He plans to attend the oil expo to be held in Minot later this month.
Why?
“I love North Dakota,” he said. “I had a lot of good years here.”

Jon:
I ran into this post my accident surfing the web this morning.
Interesting to hear you started this website.
I have many friends that work in the oil fields and oil business.
I’m still working in the broadcast business.
Do you have a private email address?
I’m just in the process of redoing my website. I just completed installing my
own web-server in my house.
