Space Aliens In North Dakota

Some of the best food in North Dakota is found in a grounded space ship.

Space Aliens Grill and Bar is decorated inside and out with things not of planet earth.  Framed tabloids featuring U.S. presidents who met aliens hang on the walls.  Sculpted aliens of all sorts hang out in corners and near the ceiling, which has a lighted and painted mural opening up a wondrous star-scene.  Separate rooms house an arcade, a meeting room and a bar.

Space Aliens is also one of the best restaurants in town.  The food ranges from fire-roasted pizza to Alien Burgers and fries served in paper cones.  Space Aliens barbecue sauce has won awards and is now bottled and sold in some stores.  And the Martian Munchies are out of this world.

But for ND, Space Aliens is more than a family-friendly place to eat.  It’s also a successful business venture with franchises extending out of state.  The first two stores opened in Bismarck in 1997 and in Fargo in 1999.  Since then, the restaurant has been franchised in Waite Park (Minnesota),  Albertville (Minnesota), Blaine (Minnesota) and Minot, ND.  More franchise opportunities are available.

Oh, by the way, the web site is terrific.  Check out the menu online.  Space Aliens caters, too.

Hi Gwen, first time reader, fun site you have going here. Funny thing about Space Aliens, my husband loves it and I…definitely don’t. About once a month, we can be found in the bar on a Wednesday night so he can get his bbq rib fix, but I’ve never had a meal that I would call delicious at Space Aliens. Just my personal opinion, and hey, that’s what blogging is all about, right? For something delicious, go to the bar at Pirogue and order the lamb burger off the bar menu. It’s cheap, it’s local, and it’s truly Good Food.

Pirogue Grille definitely is another ND plus. The atmosphere is much quieter than Space Aliens and it’s still fun. I’ve been in the restaurant but I’ve never had the chance to eat there. I’ve heard from multiple people that the food is delicious.

I also understand they make and they serve chokecherry ice cream when they can get chokecherries. The chef, Tracy Stuart, tries to focus on locally produced food. Since chokecherries are now the North Dakota state fruit, I think I’ll have to try some this summer.

Pirogue Grille is located in downtown Bismarck across from Mr. Delicious, the cheesecake shop I also have yet to try. The web stie for Pirogue Grille is http://www.piroguegrille.com. This restaurant has a very nice, sit-down-and-relax atmosphere. It’s nice to know that the food is good, too. Thanks, Beth, for the input!

Let’s not forget the Walrus and DiDonna’s in Bismarck. My personal favorite is the Walrus, and the owner and his family are great folks. DiDonna’s is also great, and was started by the former head chef of The Walrus. I don’t compare the two; it’s like comparing old and new Star Trek or old and new Van Halen. They’re both fantastic.

I’m understanding you, but I’m not agreeing with you. But anyway I’m sorry that I don’t know the right thing to do in that situation
