A Slice Of North Dakota: City Magazine

Every six weeks, United Printing publishes a small glossy magazine called City Magazine.  Stories are drawn mostly from the Bismarck-Mandan and Dickinson areas.  Besides addressing social issues like teen alcoholism, the magazine brings out some of the best and brightest things happening in our community.

I like the young entrepreneur success stories.  I like the question-and-answer articles with prominent community leaders.  I like the fact that community leaders like Ellen Huber, Mandan’s business development director, contribute articles to the magazine.

I especially liked Huber’s recent article (page 30 of the magazine/pdf file).  Mandan’s old theatre is being rennovated to support live entertainment, including hypnosis shows.  The new owners are Scott and Sandi McFall.  They also own McFall Publishing, Inc.

For some people, the theatre’s rennovation will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but it’s also a promising boost for the future of Mandan’s Main Street.  Kudos to Huber and City Magazine for covering this story.

I’m a big fan of City Magazine, formerly known as the Greeter. I’m friends with the managing editor and love reading about all things local. It’s nice of them to provide PDF format editions of the magazine as well. I admit it: I collect ‘em.

I’ve also known Scott McFall for years. He’s a really funny guy to hang out with!
I won’t tell any stories, though. From what I gather, the process of reworking their building hasn’t been a bed of roses, but if the City of Mandan holds up their end of the bargain it should be a pretty neat deal. I really want to see downtown Mandan succeed, and kudos to entrepreneurs who are willing to go out on a limb to help make it happen.
