At any rate, under present rules, deadbeat dads are treated like parolees from debtor’s prison. How are they supposed to repay their obligations if they keep getting locked up?
Law enforcement officers have been using this tactic for twenty years. It’s nothing new. Let’s not forget, the people they’re targeting are on the run from the law.
As far as deadbeat dads go, the need for them to pay child support doesn’t absolve them from other criminals. I know of one guy in particular that would get out of serving time for DUI after DUI, DUS after DUS (suspension), because he would tell the judge he couldn’t make child support if he served jail time. To date he hasn’t killed anyone, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
